To request for WEB settings on your mobile phone, send the following SMS to short code 8080.

E.g: Nokia 6288 Web

If the mobile phone request for PIN, enter “1234” or “0000” to save the settings.

What happens after sending the SMS to request for APN settings?

Emtel customer will receive 4 messages. The first message as shown in Figure 1 explains that Emtel customer will be receiving the APN settings for WEB. If the mobile phone request for PIN, Emtel customer is required to enter “1234” or “0000”.

What does Emtel customer needs to do when the configuration SMS for WEB in mobile phone is received?

Emtel customer needs to open the configuration SMS as shown in figure 4and click on “option” to save the APN settings for WEB on their mobile phone.

What happens if Emtel customer enters an incorrect PIN?


When Emtel customer enters an incorrect PIN, the automatic APN setting request will prompt again.

After 3 consecutive attempts, the APN setting request will be discarded. This varies from models to models.

The PIN code not referring to the customer current handset PIN lock.

Delete ALL APN Settings:

  • Go to Menu & Settings & Wireless & networks & Mobile Networks
  • Open Access Point Names (APN)
  • Open APN
  • Go to Menu & Delete APN
  • Repeat for each APN

When you return from abroad

Recreate your APN Settings:

  • Go to Menu > Settings > Wireless & networks
  • Open Access Point Names (APN)
  • Go to Menu > Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile Networks Go to Menu > New APN
    In APN add ‘web’
    In Name add ‘emtel’

How to turn off your data settings

This should be carried out before you make your journey.

  • Go to Menu > Manage Connections > Mobile Network Options
  • Ensure that Data Services ‘While Roaming’ are turned off or turn off ALL Data Services if desired.

When you return from abroad

Remember that if you have turned off ALL Data Services, you will need to turn this back on for your Blackberry to work.

If you have selected ‘While Roaming’ you can leave this option set to safeguard you when going abroad in the future.

How to turn off your data settings

Delete ALL APN Settings:

  • Go to Settings > General > Network > Cellular Data Network
  • Delete ‘Web’ from the APN field – press Cellular (top left corner)
  • Turn off Data Roaming
  • Turn off Cellular Data

When you return from abroad

Recreate your APN Settings:

  • Go to Settings > General > Cellular
  • Turn Cellular Data Network on
  • Turn Data Roaming on
  • Go to Cellular Data Network
  • Type ‘web’ in the APN field
