| The EDP-I is designed for evaluating LCD modules without having to lay out your own design. It provides pinouts for the most popular modules in the industry and an easy to use keyboard interface. Demonstrating, comparing and evaluating different modules has never been easier. Just plug in a standard AT style keyboard and the LCD module of your choice. The built-in line editor will give you complete control over the display. Contrast and backlight levels can be controlled via the keyboard. Two user defined screens can be stored in memory, one of which is displayed on power up. Software selectable modes: 8x1 8x2 12x2 16x1 16x2 16x4 20x2, 20x4 24x2 40x2, 40x4. Other modes avaiable via customer cable modifications. Comes with complete documentation. |

- Frequently asked questions:
- With just this PC board and a Keyboard, I can program a LCD display ?
- Yes. You can store up two screens worth of characters that can be sent to the display using F2 and F3. At this time, you cannot change the user-defined characters .
- With the Keyboard removed, the LCD Display will show the first (#1) input?
- Yes, it will load the default screen (stored using F3). However, you will probably need to leave a keyboard connected since the EDP-1 is trying to reset it on power up and may lockup waiting.
- Typically, does an LCD module have it's own memory? Does it require the EDP-1 to send the required commands, at power up?
- Yes, the LCD has volatile memory and will "forget" as soon as powered off.
- Can I run two 2 separate LCD displays with this PC Board?
- The EDP-1 wasn't intended to run two displays - but remember that a 40x4 is actually two drivers sharing one display and it requires the second enable line. In theory, (we haven't tried this), you could connect two smaller displays (20x4 would be your best bet), with one using EN1 and the other using EN2. If you select 40x4 mode you could talk to both. Lines 1 and 2 would be on the first display and 3 and 4 on the second. However, you might get some strange results with characters not going where you expect them to go due to the line length not matching up. Also, if you don't have a display on EN2 and you've selected 40x4 mode the board will lockup waiting for a response that will never come.
