How to use Emtel Facebook Mobile?

  • Set up Emtel Facebook Text Alerts
    Login your Facebook account via WEB
    Go to Account > Account Setting > Mobile
    Activate Facebook text by selecting “Mauritius” as country and “EMTEL” as carrier.
    On your mobile, send FB by sms to 8300
    Key in confirmation code received via sms
    Once registered, you can now use the service. For example, to update your status, send ”I’m happy” to 8300 and this will appear as your new status.

  • Upload pictures through MMS via SMS?
    Log on to your Facebook account via WEB, go to Account>Account Setting > Mobile and click on “Go to Facebook mobile” on top of the page
    You will receive your personal email to be used for uploading pictures.From your mobile, go to create MMS, enter the email address instead of a phone number and insert your picture and subject in the mms and click send.
    The picture will instantly appear on your Facebook profile.

  5. How do I disable Emtel Facebook Mobile?
    Send OFF by sms to 8300. You will receive a confirmation sms.
  6. What is the character limit when posting a status update?
    You are allowed to post messages up to 160 characters.
  7. Can I change my registration to another Facebook account?
    Yes. You need to request a new Facebook confirmation code. Then, key in the confirmation code in your new Facebook account.
  8. What happens if I change my Facebook password on Facebook WEB?
    This doesn’t affect or change anything to your Emtel Facebook Mobile subscription.
  9. Can I limit the amount and/or set the time of mobile alerts that I receive every day?
    Yes. You can manage your mobile alerts on your web Facebook account.

    Go to Account > Account Setting > Mobile.

  10. What happens if my friend’s status update is more than 160 characters?
    The message will be truncated to 160 characters and you will need to reply “n” to receive the remaining part of the message.
  11. What happens if I lose my confirmation code?
    You can always request for a new confirmation code. However, you need to key in your newly requested confirmation code in your Facebook account on web for it to take effect. To request for a new confirmation code, send FB by sms to 8300.
  12. I have subscribed to A’s alerts via sms. A posts a status update. B, C, and D comment on the status update posted by A. Will I receive sms alerts from B, C and D in this scenario??
    No. You will only receive sms alerts from A.
  13. Does Emtel Facebook Mobile support number and symbols?
    Emtel Facebook Mobile supports numbers and standard symbols. Currently, only ` is not supported. It will be replaced with a question mark (?).
  14. Can I have the same registration for 2 different web Facebook accounts on the same mobile number?
    No. Only one account can be registered to your mobile number.

Access to Facebook via mobile service Terms of Use

  1. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE
    Access to Facebook via mobile service (hereinafter referred to as the “Service”) is an SMS-based service operated by Emtel Ltd (hereinafter referred to as “Emtel”) using a Third Party Application which allows the user (hereinafter referred to as “You”) to send and receive facebook messages and/or updates through SMS and such facebook messages and/or updates are then reflected on your facebook account on the web. The Service also provides You with the possibility of uploading pictures through the MMS option and the picture is automatically updated on your facebook account on the web.
  2. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS
    Access to and use of this Service are subject to the terms and conditions below (hereinafter referred to as the “Terms and Conditions”) which may be updated by Emtel from time to time without notice to You and to Facebook terms and conditions which are available on the link below: http://www.facebook.com/terms.php?ref=pfTo register to the Service, You are required to send “FB” via SMS to the shortcode 8300 (hereinafter referred to as the “Shortcode”).By registering to the Service, You confirm that You have read and understood the Terms and Conditions and that You accept them fully and without reservation. Registration with the Service creates a contract between Emtel and You (hereinafter referred to as the “Agreement”). In the event You do not agree to any of the Terms and Conditions, you are recommended not register to the Service.
  3. ACCESSIBILITY
    Emtel endeavors to make the Service as widely accessible as possible. Due to the technical aspects of mobile phone connections, over which Emtel Ltd has no influence, disruptions to the Service may arise from time to time including in the data transfer. Emtel cannot therefore give any guarantee on the accessibility to the Service or that the Service will perform uninterrupted.
  4. COST OF USING THE SERVICE
    4.1 For the use of the Service, You shall be charged the normal SMS tariff, that is, Rs 0.60/SMS for SMS sent for prepaid and Rs 0.50/SMS for SMS sent for postpaid. For the use of MMS, you shall be charged Rs 3/MMS sent. All the charges mentioned are exclusive of VAT. Each SMS message has a limit of 160 characters. If You type and send a longer message it will be broken down into several SMSes and You will be charged accordingly for each SMS sent. Any SMS that You receive from the Shortcode will not be charged. You agree not to send any unsolicited SMS and/or SMS containing commercial material or material over which You do not have rights of dissemination.
    4.2 Emtel reserves the right to modify the price of the Service without any notification to you.
  5. DURATION AND TERMINATION
    5.1 The Agreement will be effective as of the date of the registration to the Service and will remain effective until terminated by either Emtel or You as set out below.5.2 You may terminate the Agreement at any time by deregistering to the Service.5.3 Without limiting its other remedies, Emtel may terminate this Agreement with immediate effect, automatically and without recourse to the courts, and may limit, suspend, or terminate Your use of the Service, prohibit access to the Service, and take technical and legal steps to keep You off the Emtel Services if we think that You are in breach of these Terms and Conditions including engaging yourself into any immoral and/or illegal activity.. Without prejudice to its other rights, Emtel may effect such termination by preventing your access to your user Account and to the Service.5.4 Emtel reserves the right to modify these Terms and Conditions at any time by publishing the revised Terms and Conditions, which shall become effective within thirty (30) days from the date of publication. Your continued use of the Service within and/or after expiry of the 30-day period shall constitute your acceptance to be bound by the revised Terms and Conditions. If You do not wish to accept these revised Terms of Service, You are entitled to deregister to the Service.
  6. EMTEL FACEBOOK MOBILE PRIVACY POLICY
    You understand and agree that Emtel is not responsible for the content of messages sent or delivered through the Service. Emtel strongly advise You not to exchange any personal information such as your name, address, mobile number, bank details or any other similar information using the Service. Doing so shall be at your sole responsibility.
  7. USER CONDUCT & RESPONSIBILITIES
    You understand that all information including, data, text, software, music, sound, photographs, graphics, video, messages or other materials (“Content”), publicly posted on the Facebook account, are the sole responsibility of the person from which such Content originated. This means that You, and not Emtel, are entirely responsible for all Content that you upload, post or otherwise transmit via the Service. Emtel does not control the Content posted via the Service and, as such, does not guarantee the accuracy, integrity or quality of any such Content.By posting or attempting to post any information through the Service(s), You agree that You will not post, or facilitate distribution of any text or other information – that is or likely to be considered as unlawful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, libelous, deceptive, fraudulent, invasive of another’s privacy, tortious, contains explicit or graphic descriptions or accounts of violence or sexual acts (including but not limited to sexual language of a violent or threatening nature directed at another individual or group of individuals) including any text or information which:;Makes reference to pornographic or illegal acts including child abuse or child pornography, adult material that breaches any applicable law or contains criminally racist material or reference to acts of rape, bestiality, sodomy;
    makes reference to terrorist or extremist organisations;
    that appears to pose a threat to national security;
    makes reference to drug use, distribution or abuse;
    that victimizes, harasses, degrades, or intimidates an individual or group of individuals on the basis of religion, gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, age, or disability;
    infringes on any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, right of publicity, or other proprietary right of any person;
    constitutes unauthorized or unsolicited advertising, junk or bulk messages (“spamming”) or any other form of unauthorized solicitation, or any form of lottery or gambling;
    attempts to obtain unauthorized access to any data or other information of any person; or impersonates any person or entity. In addition to the above, You agree that You shall not collect information about users or use such information for the purpose of
    transmitting or facilitating transmission of unsolicited bulk electronic e-mail or communications;
  8. MODIFICATIONS TO SERVICE
    Emtel reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, the Service (or any part thereof) with or without notice. You agree that Emtel shall not be liable to You or to any third party for any modification, suspension or discontinuance of the Service.
  9. DATA PROTECTION
    Emtel, in its operation of the Service, complies with the legal provisions on data protection and on the confidentiality of information. User data is always stored securely. However to operate such Service and to prepare invoices it is sometimes necessary to store data and pass data on to third parties. You therefore allow Emtel to store personal, invoicing, chat, provider and access data. This data will only be made available in extract or in an anonymised form to partners, where this is necessary for the operation of the Service or for the purposes of invoicing. Under no circumstances will information be passed on to unauthorised third parties.
  10. INDEMNITY, LIMITATION OF LIABILITY & CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES
    YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY, DEFEND AND HOLD EMTEL HARMLESS FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL LIABILITY AND COSTS, INCLUDING REASONABLE LEGAL FEES INCURRED BY SUCH PARTIES, IN CONNECTION WITH OR ARISING OUT OF YOUR VIOLATION OF THESE TERMS OF SERVICE, ANY APPLICABLE LAW OR REGULATION.In no event will Emtel be liable for any special, indirect, punitive, incidental or consequential damages (including without limitation damages resulting from loss of use, data, profits or business) arising out of or in connection with this Agreement or the use or performance of the Service, whether in an action based on contract, tort (including negligence) or any other legal theory.In no event will the total aggregate liability of Emtel for any and all damages based on contract, tort (including negligence) or any other legal theory arising out of or in connection with this Agreement or the use or performance of the Service exceed the charges paid by the end user for this Service.This clause supersedes any other clause in this Agreement which contradicts or conflicts with this clause. You agree that the limitations set forth above are reasonable in the circumstances. All claims for damages must be made in writing and received by Emtel within sixty (60) days of their occurrence.
  11. MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS
    11.1 NOTICES
    All notices under this Agreement shall be in English. All notices shall be effective when received, and shall be given in writing, hand delivered or sent by any means requiring a delivery receipt to the recipient at Emtelworld, 10 Ebene Cybercity, Ebene, or such other address as the party shall have established by notice as provided herein.11.2 ENTIRE AGREEMENT
    This Agreement, together with updates, warnings and notices given when using this Service shall constitute the entire Agreement. The failure of Emtel to insist in any one or more instances upon performance of any term, covenant or condition of this Agreement will not be construed as a waiver of its future performance. No waiver of any of the provisions of this Agreement will be deemed, or will constitute, a waiver of any other provision, whether or not similar, nor will any waiver constitute a continuing waiver. No waiver will be binding unless executed in writing by the party making the waiver.11.3 GOVERNING LAW AND JURISDICTION
    This Agreement shall take effect under, be construed and enforced according to, and be governed by the laws of Mauritius. Any action arising under or relating to this Agreement shall be decided by a competent court of Mauritius.11.4 SEVERABILITY
    The provisions of this Agreement are severable. If any provision or part of this Agreement will be held by any court or other official body of competent jurisdiction to be invalid or unenforceable for any reason, the remaining provisions or parts hereof will continue to be given effect and will be binding unless the unenforceability or illegality has the consequence of substantially altering the respective rights and obligations of the parties hereto.
