Yahoo announced its new logo yesterday. After a month of parading different logos online, the CEO of Yahoo, Marissa Mayer, finally unveiled the winner.
Yahoo’s new corporate logo is purple and continues to be in capital type. The logo has dropped the ‘serif’ font and has adopted a streamlined font which makes it look more chic. To top it all, the indispensable exclamation point allows itself a small dance when the page refreshes.
According to Mayer, the company wanted the logo to stay true to its roots: whimsical, purple and with the famous exclamation point. According to CNET, the logo reflects the personality of the company, which considers itself a very traditional firm, with textured edges.
Mayer added that even if the company was tempted to try out lower case letters, the upper case won the day largely on practical grounds – the need to ensure that the logo can be easily read even on the smallest of screens.
The practice of changing corporate logos is catching on. Recently, Microsoft and eBay also gave their logos a makeover.
So, what do you think of Yahoo’s new logo? Does it get a thumbs-up from you?
